Top Destinations
must-not-miss places to visit during your honeymoon in Kerala
1. Munnar
Probably the most famous honeymoon destination in Kerala are lusciously beautiful hills of Munnar. Carpeted in emerald-green tea plantations, contoured, clipped and sculpted like ornamental hedges, Munnar is one of the largest tea-growing regions of India.
To us, the best thing in Munnar was staying in a tea-plantation-resort and taking a stroll down the winding path inside the tea-gardens. Another lovely experience would be to take tour of open-to-public tea factories and taste the freshly brewed beverage.
2. Thekkady
Pleasing climate, spectacular landscape and charming sightseeing options makes Thekkady a perfect destination for honeymooner in Kerala. Floating clouds and sky touching mountains will take you to the enchanting land of the shire from Lord of the Rings. Jeep Safari in Periyar Jungle is definitely something you should not miss!

3. Alleppey
Known as ‘Venice of the East’, this coastal city is blessed with backwaters that function as a network of waterways. Its scenic beauty is inexplicable, making it one of the most sought after destinations in Kerala. With houseboat cruises on its lagoons, Alappuzha or Alleppey offers a perfect getaway, serving as both a family vacation spot as well as an ideal honeymoon retreat.

4. Bekal
This one is for folks who are fascinated by historical forts and also love spotless beaches. Bekal is one of the most naturally-beautiful places for honeymoon in Kerala. Clean sand and clear water, panoramic view of the Bekal Fort and close proximity to the calming backwaters of Valiyaparamba, make this destination a perfect spot for an intimate holiday.

5. Kovalam
Highly likely that if you have seen any postcard from Kerala, it’s the Kovalam beach with the iconic lighthouse in the background. The mist-covered hills and the beautiful beaches make for an ideal getaway for all, especially honeymooners.
We really enjoyed a romantic walk on the Lighthouse beach while watching the sunset.

Best experiences to savor
must-not-miss activities during your honeymoon in Kerala
1. Cruise the backwaters
No trip to Kerala is complete without a laid-back houseboat ride on its idyllic backwaters. Lined by emerald coconut plantations and scattered with turquoise lakes, these placid lagoons are the perfect place to shake off the urban stress.
Pro tip: for a memorable experience – board at dusk and spend the night aboard a houseboat. Thereby witnessing a stunning sunset and a dreamy sunrise among the backwaters!

2. Snap Kochi’s fishing nets
According to many, the top position among Kerala’s iconic photo ops goes to the cantilevered Chinese fishing nets. Crafted out of bamboo and teak poles and resembling giant alien arachnids poised to sting, they form unreal silhouettes against the seascape, especially at sunset.
3. Get beached in Varkala
Perched on a precipitous cliff and overlooking the sapphire waters of the Arabian Sea, this paradise boasts some dazzling sands to relax on. Varkala offers a combination of tranquil beaches and lively shacks and cafes to ensure a calm and laid-back time. It is the perfect place to unwind and live in the moment.

4. Embrace Ayurveda
For most travelers, the ultimate way to end a trip to Kerala is by indulging in an absolutely relaxing Ayurveda treatment. For us – the oil massage in a heritage village was the perfect way to get rejuvenated from the stresses of a big fat Indian wedding!
In most Ayurveda centers, you choose from a range of oil massages. Also, learn some of the meditation techniques and Yogasanas that can be practiced and benefited from for life. While Ayurvedic practices have gained global acceptance, it would be foolish to miss out on a chance for an authentic experience.
5. Watch a Kathakali show
Having stayed in Japan and experienced the culture, I thought Kabuki was the most spectacular form of dance/drama. But Kathakali proved it wrong. Kathakali is Kerala’s very own classical dance tradition dating back to the 17th century. Embodying perfection in every way – from its preparation to expression, this classical Indian dance left us mesmerized and enchanted.
Bonus: Get a taste of Malabar
Any visit is incomplete without partaking of its traditional feast of the land; in Kerala its called the Kerala sadya. Served in a plantain leaf, it is a complete meal that encompasses every course, right from the starters to dessert. It assimilates every flavour, taste, and texture – from crunchy banana chips, crispy pappadam, soft curries, stir fried vegetables, spicy rasam, colorful gravies, to sweet payasams (semolina in caramelised milk). In addition to these, other dishes that emerge from Kerala’s kitchens day after day include fiery pothu (beef) fry, fluffy appams (rice hoppers), aviyal (vegetables in aromatic coconut gravy), fish moilee (spicy yellow curry) etc.
