Tiger Hill

Everybody who visits Tiger Hill in Darjeeling gets mesmerized to look at a beautiful sunrise. More than that, you’d be taking in all of that scenic beauty from a mountainous backdrop. And that’s precisely the reason why you should get up early and visit Tiger Hill. It’s a really popular place for tourists to gather and enjoy watching the Sunrise. Of course, the climate just enhances the experience of the whole thing.

Lake Senchal

Moving about 10 kilometers or so towards the southeast from Darjeeling. We’ve got Lake Senchal. As a reservoir, it’s one of the primary freshwater sources for the town. And it’s situated on top of a hill with total tranquility surrounding it. You can go there and have the time of your life, with camping, bonfires, etc. The environment’s just so good over there.

Mall Road

From the peaceful outskirts to the bustling town interiors. Now on the list, we’ve got Mall Road, Darjeeling. I can point out a lot of things about this part of Darjeeling. And you’d have a general idea of this as well, knowing where in Darjeeling this is. But, my personal favorite is the view you get of Mt. Kanchenjunga. It’s something you just can’t miss if you are anywhere around town. Other than that, you can shop to your heart’s content around Mall Road.

Batasia Loop

Another spot as beautiful as the Mall Road area, but a bit more serene is Batasia Loop near Ghum. Right at the center of Batasia Loop, there’s a beautiful circular garden-like structure. Come here and you could enjoy yourself a nice and tranquil time. As far as the ‘loop’ part of Batasia loop goes, there’s a nice little railway track. This adds that extra bit of rusticness that you might have expected from a place like this one.

Peace Pagoda

If you’re a fan of majestic structures, then visiting the Peace Pagoda is going to be a must. Right away you’re going to be pretty mesmerized by the sheer beauty of this holy building. No matter what faith you have it’s going to be a sight to see for you. The biggest attraction other than the beauty of this building is the opportunity to meditate here. Now that’s a meditation session that you’re going to remember for a long time.

The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute

One of the best institutes for mountaineering, the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute is another must-visit. You can see Mt. Kanchenjunga from here as well. But that’s just one of the great things about this. Once you visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and take a look around. You’ll get to see that the sport of mountaineering isn’t just climbing on rocks. There are so many fine details to it, that you’re going to find out about. So if you’re interested in learning about the mountains and how you can scale their summit, you can do that with a nominal ticket fee of INR 40.

Barbotey Garden

The Barbotey Garden is a place where nature meets art. Amidst a hilly terrain, there’s this fantastic place for people to come and hang around. And next to that there’s a beautiful stream flowing down. A perfect place to come to if you want to relax after a long day of touring.

Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park

Do you like animals? Then this might just be the place to start your journey through Darjeeling with. But this isn’t just any other Zoological Park. As it’s only here that you can see red pandas and Himalayan snow leopards. You don’t get to see such animals anywhere else. This wonderful Zoological Park is situated at an elevation of 7000 feet above sea level. Which makes it pretty unique in a lot of senses. Entry fee is going to INR 20 for Indian people, INR 50 in case of foreigners. And if you want to take a camera with you, that’s cost you INR 10 on top of the entry.

Nightingale Park

Last on my list of best places to visit in Darjeeling comes the Nightingale Park. Back in the days, this place was called the ‘Shrubbery’. Another great place to visit with your family and friends to relax. And you’re going to get a phenomenal view of Kanchenjunga from here as well. To get to Nightingale Park, you won’t have to travel far and wide. As this is located right around town. Of the more interesting things that are here, you’ll see a statue of Lord Shiva. There’s a musical fountain along with that as well.

That brings us to the end of my list of the best places to visit in Darjeeling. I hope you have a wonderful time as you come to Darjeeling. Just make sure that you’re carrying around warm clothes, as it can get bitterly cold.
